چکیده

In this paper, we provide an overview of some recently introduced principles and ideas for speech enhancement with linear filtering and explore how these are related and how they can be used in various applications. This is done in a general framework where the speech enhancement problem is stated as a signal vector estimation problem, i.e., with a filter matrix, where the estimate is obtained by means of a matrix-vector product of the filter matrix and the noisy signal vector. In this framework, minimum distortion, minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR), tradeoff, maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and Wiener filters are derived from the conventional speech enhancement approach and the recently introduced orthogonal decomposition approach. For each of the filters, we derive their properties in terms of output SNR and speech distortion. We then demonstrate how the ideas can be applied to singleand multichannel noise reduction in both the time and frequency domains as well as binaural noise reduction.

Speech Enhancement by Modified Convex Combination of Fractional Adaptive Filtering

This paper presents new adaptive filtering techniques used in speech enhancement system. Adaptive filtering schemes are subjected to different trade-offs regarding their steady-state misadjustment, speed of convergence, and tracking performance. Fractional Least-Mean-Square (FLMS) is a new adaptive algorithm which has better performance than the conventional LMS algorithm. Normalization of LMS ...

Speech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering

Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...

A Brief Survey of Speech Enhancement1

We present a brief overview of the speech enhancement problem for wide-band noise sources that are not correlated with the speech signal. Our main focus is on the spectral subtraction approach and some of its derivatives in the forms of linear and non-linear minimum mean square error estimators. For the linear case, we review the signal subspace approach, and for the non-linear case, we review ...

A New Shuffled Sub-swarm Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for Speech Enhancement

In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to enhance the noisy speech in the framework of dual-channel speech enhancement. The new method is a hybrid optimization algorithm, which employs the  combination of  the  conventional θ-PSO and the shuffled sub-swarms particle optimization (SSPSO) technique. It is known that the θ-PSO algorithm has better optimization performance than standard PSO al...

Utilizing Kernel Adaptive Filters for Speech Enhancement within the ALE Framework

Performance of the linear models, widely used within the framework of adaptive line enhancement (ALE), deteriorates dramatically in the presence of non-Gaussian noises. On the other hand, adaptive implementation of nonlinear models, e.g. the Volterra filters, suffers from the severe problems of large number of parameters and slow convergence. Nonetheless, kernel methods are emerging solutions t...
